What to Bring

NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person event is currently suspended until further notice, but we are currently hosting RAWR6 as a virtual event.

According to the University of Texas at Dallas guest housing website, visitors should plan on bringing the following items with them (subject to final verification with the university):

  • Laundry supplies
    • laundry detergent
    • fabric softener
    • dryer sheets
    • laundry bag
  • Toiletries
    • razor and shaving cream or soap
    • shampoo, conditioner, and body wash
    • hairbrush, comb, blow dryer, and other grooming supplies
    • tooth brush, toothpaste, mouthwash, floss, and other dental supplies
  • Pillows
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Medications, including over-the-counter medications
  • Clothes hangars

As part of the cost of the retreat stay, we will provide the following supplies and materials:

  • Cleaning supplies
    • Dust wipes, glass cleaner, microfiber towels, trash bags, &c
  • Consumable paper supplies
    • Paper towels, toilet paper
  • Linens
  • Hot water pot (for tea or coffee)

Optionally, we may provide the following amenities as part of the cost of the retreat:

  • Small refrigerator*
  • Microwave*
  • Television*

As part of the retreat, you are expected to bring the following additional items with you to ensure that you get the most out of the retreat experience:

  • Laptop computer (or equivalent device)
  • Microsoft Office 365, or Scrivener (or equivalent software)
    • Software *must* be able to export DOCX or Word 2019-equivalent documents.
    • Software must be able to work with Word 2019+ comments.

The following items are recommended for your comfort or convenience; some may depend on the activities you choose to perform while at the retreat and where you prefer to write:

  • Lap desk or equivalent
  • Notepad and writing implements
  • Ceramic mug or reusable hot cup (for tea or coffee)
  • Reusable plastic or silicone drinking vessel with lid (for cold beverages).
  • Ungrounded extension cord (for two-prong, ungrounded devices); or
  • Grounded power strip (for three-prong, grounded devices)
  • Spare Lightning, USB-C or USB-Micro connector cables
  • HDMI cable
  • Mini-Display Port cable (depending on equipment)
  • Wireless mouse and/or keyboard
  • Headphones
  • USB key (At least 8 GB)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Umbrella or raincoat
  • Nice change of clothes
  • Athletic/exercise shoes or attire

Items not permitted on the campus include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Candles
  • Toasters
  • Hot plates
  • Cooking appliances
  • Weapons
  • Alcohol
  • Illegal drugs
  • Pets
  • Tobacco
